Cytokines production by human leukocytes infected by Far East strains of tick-borne vencephalitis virus

Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Vladivostok, Russia

Spontaneous cytokines production by leukocytes of human donor blood infected by 12 strains of tick-bome encephalitis virus (TBEV) and dynamics of reproduction these strains were detected. It was shown that all investigated strains of TBEV were ensuring the increase of interferon production (IFN-α and IFN-γ), the suppression proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-8) and the insignificant stimulation of anti-inflammatory cytokines production (IL-4) by immunocompetent cells. Maximal concentrations of cytokines in human leukocytes infected by strains of TBEV that isolated from patients with febrile form of infection were found. Maximal level of virus reproduction in human leukocytes was detected for strains that isolated from patients with focal form of infection.
