Immunological characteristic of pathogenesis during early stage of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome caused by Seoul hantavirus

Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, State Medical University, Vladivostok, Russia

The systemic and local production of immune response mediators during HFRS caused by Seoul hantavirus, prevailed in urban areas of Maritime territory was studied. The levels of cytokines represented both types of immune response, Th1 and Th2, and nitric oxide (NO) were detected in supernatant fraction of urea and condensate of lung expirate and the substrates of target organs. The systemic cytokine production was characterized by high levels of IL-12p70, IL-12p40, IL-10 and IL-4 during early stage of disease (before 10 days after onset). The independent and strong synthesis of cytokins and NO in the respiratory tract and kidney was discovered during early stage of disease. These data correlated with cardinal clinical syndromes of disease — hemorrhagic syndrome. renal failure, respiratory and hemodynamic disbalances.
