Use of reserve substances by Yersinia pseudotuberculosis and Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in conditions of starvation at different temperature

Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Vladivostok, Russia

It has been established that in conditions of low temperature (6 — 8°Ñ) and shortcoming of carbon and energy source, L.monocytogenes and Y.pseudotuberculosis are able to actively synthesize a reserve substances in the form of polyphosphates and poly-β-hydroxybutyric acid. It is proved by electron microscopic study of bacterial cells ultrastructure. Polyphosphates have a great importance; their quantity is 100 times more then resource of poly-β-hydroxybutyric acid. The bacteria are expend cell biopolymers on biosynthetic and energy processes in conditions of starvation and low temperature.
