Research Institute for Plague Control, Stavropol, Russia

During four recent years cases of Crimean hemorrhagic fever (CHF) among humans were registered in the South of Russia. CHF morbidity was most pronounced in the comparatively dry Stavropol Territory. An essential role in the activation of the natural focus of CHF was supposedly played by rooks providing a source of food for ticks in juvenile phases of development. The article contains the corresponding materials, among them those concerning an increase in the number of rooks in recent years. The role of Ixodes ticks in the natural focus of CHF.
