Use of new technologies for the laboratory diagnostics of Crimean hemorrhagic fever in the Volgograd region

Research Institute for Plague Control, Regional Center of State Sanitary and Epidemiolgical Surveillance, Volgograd; Central Research Institute of Epidemiology, Moscow, Russia

In the year 2000 in summer the natural focus of Crimean hemorrhagic fever (CHF) was for the first time registered in the south western part of the Volgograd region. In the determination of the etiology of this outbreak laboratory diagnostics aimed at the detection of CHF virus markers played an important role. On the basis of the results obtained in this study the possibility of using, in principle, specially developed immunological and amplification test systems for the diagnostics of CHF was shown, which facilitated the timely realization of antiepidemic and prophylactic measures.
