During the period of 2000 — 2002 the natural focus of Crimean hemorrhagic fever (CHF), covering 7 south western regions, was formed on the territory of the Volgograd region. The realization of antiepidemic and prophylactic measures made it possible to decrease the gravity of the epidemic situation (18 cases in 2000, 9 cases in 2001, 3 cases in 2002). The extension of borders of the focus occurred due to the increase of the nabitat of ticks Hyalomma marginatum, the main host and vector of CHF virus.
