RF Ministry of Health and Social Development, Moscow; Research Institute for Plague Control, Stavropol, Russia

At the end of the XX century and the begi

ing of the XXI century the activation of the natural focus of Crimean hemorrhagic fever (CHF) in the South of Russia occurred. As a consequence, outbreaks and sporadic cases of this disease were registered on the territory of 6 out of 13 administrative subjects of the Southern Federal District. To minimize the consequences of the aggravated epidemiological situation, the mobilization of efforts and means of the organs of the health service and the institutions of the state sanitary and epidemiological service, including considerable financial expenses, was necessary. The article contains information about the results of the study of the natural focality of CHF, obtained in 2004, as well as about the main trends in prophylactic and antiepidemic measures. Researches and practical observations made it possible to develop a number of normative methodological documents on the problems of the diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis of CHF.
