H.pylori infection is characterized by changes in local and systemic immunity, which makes it possible to suggest that the immune system is closely involved into the pathogenesis of Helicobacter associated diseases. In T cell-mediated immunity the hyperreactivity of T helpers, type 1, is observed, while the suppression or the absence of changes in T helpers, type 2, is associated with the hyperproduction of γ-interferon, tumor necrosis factor-α and other cytokines on the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, potentiating the damaging action of the products of Helicobacter vital activity. The reaction in the B cell-mediated immunity is characterized by the increased synthesis of IgA and IgG to H.pylori.
