The results of the content analysis of materials distributed by republican, central and foreign sources of information, operatively and objectively reflecting the situation created by the high-flood are presented. This analysis revealed that, judging by the number of publications (245), the newspaper “Yakutia” gave the most balanced information. The newspaper “Sakha-Sirè”, having published 162 highly objective articles, proved to be the most operative source. Contradictions in the public opinion and public conscience were noted. 15 detailed interviews taken in Olekminsk demonstrated the presence of high motivations and the elements of “constructive optimism” in spite of the low quality of life.
