State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance Center in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)

During the summer season of 2001 six casess of malaria were registered on the territory of the republic of Sakha; two of these cases were classified as local, secondary cases of infection primarily brought from other regions. Earlier entomological studies, carried out in 1997, revealed a high seasonal number of malarial mosquitoes, registered during the control period of one day in a housing for live-stock and equal to 132. The territory of the Republic of Sakha was found to be the zone of the unstable risk of malaria transmission and placed under control.
