Data on the secreted pathogenicity factors of different enterobacterial species are reviewed. Update information on toxin classification is presented. The main cytotoxic and cytotonic enterotoxins, transient pore forming toxins (RTX), cytotoxic necrotizing factor and injection toxins have been analyzed. Problems co
ected with the mechanism of action and genetic control of known enterobacterial toxins are discussed.
