Number and distribution of mammals in the South-Western part of the area between the rivers Lena and Vilyuy

The results of prolonged complex studies on the number and distribution of mammals on a definite territory are presented. The fauna of ground mammals includes 41 species, its basic part is made up by small mammals belonging to the orders Insectivora and Rodentia. The animal serving as the main object of fur hunting is the sable whose population density is rather high. At the same time hoofed animals were found to have low population density.
