State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance Center in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)
The unfavorable situation in water supply in Olekminsk, which led to an outbreak of viral hepatitis A, is described. 227 cases of the disease with infection transmitted mainly by the water factor were registered. According to the data of laboratory monitoring, all 49 specimens taken only during four months of 2001 did not meet the requirements of the sanitary norms. The results of the measures taken for improving the state of water supply, which led to the improvement of the quality of drinking water, are presented. The prospects of water preparation were determined.
