The characterization of the outbreak of viral hepatitis A (VHA) which affected 247 persons in Olekminsk during the post-inundation period of August 1 — October 10, 2001, is presented. In the sera of the patients specific IgM antibodies were detected in 67% of cases. The laboratory control of the objects of water supply made it possible to detect VHA antigens in 87.5% and rotavirus antigen in 12.5% of specimens of drinking water. The conclusion was made on the role of drinking water as the causative factor in the development of VHA outbreak morbidity and its scale under the conditions following emergency situation. nZh.
