Specific features of the epidemiology of modern cholera

In this review information on the spread of cholera in the world, embracing the period of the XIX and XX centuries, is presented. The detailed description of the pandemic character of cholera, including all seven pandemics, is given. The epidemiological situation in cholera is analyzed and the conclusion is made that the main regularity of the epidemic process in modern El Tor cholera are the endemic character of the disease and its epidemic character due to the prolonged and continuous course of pandemic VII. The work points out that the epidemic process on the global level, as well as on the regional and local levels, is regulated mainly by growing activation of the international and internal movement of the population.
