Classification and clinical and epidemiological characteristics of diseases with mainly sexual route of transmission are presented. Their high social and economical significance is showed as well as reasons of high prevalence of these diseases in Russia are demonstrated. Modern ways of prevention and control of sexually-transmitted diseases in different population groups are outlined.
